Photovoltaic and solar thermodynamics in Germany: German Advanced Research support measures in industrial outlook.

At the time of construction of a new energy and climate strategy for Europe, development of renewable energy is presented as a necessity to switch to a sustainable economy of low carbon. Thus, the EU has set itself the target of satisfying 20% of its final energy demand by 2020 from renewable energy sources. For many experts, solar power technologies are intended to play an important role in future world energy mix in 2050. In the fight to reduce production costs of solar electricity, Germany as a model by allocating each year tens of millions of euros to research in the areas of photovoltaic and solar thermal concentration and encouraging private investment. If the photovoltaic today covers only a tiny part of the global electricity demand, growth rates currently observed (about 40%) indicate a real change of course. Thus, the company Solarworld Germany believes that this technology is expected to meet approximately 10% of gross electricity consumption by 2020. Meanwhile, the rising costs of fossil fuels call thermodynamic solar power and applications up to date and suggest a bright future for companies such as German leaders SolarMillennium. The document gives the floor to a number of German experts in the field to review research policy in Germany, review the current technological advances and provide an overview of industrial prospects. In this document: 1. Photovoltaics 1.1. The Law on Renewable Energy (EEG) and research policy: the drivers of success of photovoltaics in Germany 1.2. The photovoltaic concentration - a technology on the threshold of marketing 1.5. The applications of laser technology in photovoltaics: an effective combination brings new concepts 1.6. Organic photovoltaics - thin films for solar electricity affordable 1.7. The photovoltaic electricity, for the future: its role in supplying energy of the future 2. Solar thermal power concentration 2.1. Solar thermal power concentration: research support from the federal government 2.2. The priorities of applied research on solar thermodynamics 2.3. The power-parabolic cylindrical sensors could soon replace conventional power - provided a policy framework is in place
