Managed out of its Program Office in Waco, TX, SOFIA will be a 2.6-meter reflecting telescope in a modified Boeing 747-SP, once completed. USRA heads a team that will design, develop, test and operate SOFIA, which will be the world's largest flying astronomical observatory. The Project Manager is Mr. Jim Kephart. The Chief Scientist is Dr. Eric E. Becklin.
