Product Name: HH-92 CSAR-X (Combat Search and Rescue) Helicopter
Product Description
CSAR-X is the U.S. Air Force's proposed next-generation Combat
Search and Rescue helicopter program. Sikorsky Aircraft, as prime contractor,
is teamed with Boeing and Rockwell Collins.
Sikorsky is offering the HH-92 helicopter as the platform. HH-92 is a
derivative of the S-92, which was designed and built with technology components
derived from the company's diverse military helicopter heritage including the
U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force Black Hawk and the U.S. Marine Corps Super
Stallion.
The S-92 flies many demanding missions, including supporting off-shore oil
rigs, where operators require outstanding performance, high operating tempo and
low maintenance at the lowest possible cost, precisely the qualities required by
the Air Force in its CSAR-X proposal.
Boeing will supply the HH-92 helicopter with a network-centric system linking
management and planning of missions with communications and sensors to give the
crew unprecedented situational awareness. All of this is based on a open system
architecture.
With Boeing's system, a wealth of information will be available including
up-to-the minute data on locations of enemy anti-aircraft weapons and the best
route to take to avoid them. The crew also would get information to help
determine the intentions of any nearby aircraft and warnings of activity by
hostile ground radars linked to guns or missiles. Additionally, the Boeing
system includes electronic countermeasures to jam radars or defeat incoming
missiles.
Rockwell Collins is providing cockpit avionics and situation and training
solutions for the HH-92 CSAR-X.
The Air Force's proposal calls for 141 helicopters. A winner in the
competition is expected to be announced in the 2nd quarter of 2006.
