Logic gate means a logical circuit which has only one output with respect to one or more input.
With a simple example we can discuss the matter. Take a bulb with a connection of 2 switch. You can operate the bulb by any one or both of the switch on. So we can get output (Bulb on) by switch on one or both switch on. We can say this is a logic circuit and the total switching and output can be called a logic gate. This is the basic of logic gate.

Two type logic circuit in application
1. Sequential logic circuit
2. Combinational logic circuit.
