Research Description

  • My research aims to elucidate the processes of and links between soil formation, surface properties, and landform evolution across a Mojave Desert landscape. Specifically, my research centers around four questions.
    1. How do the southern Fry Mountains contribute to local and regional eolian processes?
    2. What soils are found in these upland areas and what major processes contribute to their formation?
    3. What is the role of land-surface characteristics in trapping dust and redistributing water on the landscape?
    4. Can our knowledge of the processes of carbonate accumulation be applied to accurately predict soil inorganic carbon (SIC) storage across the landscape?
  • Understanding these processes and links will help predict the response of arid ecosystems to environmental problems such as rising greenhouse gases and land-use change.
