Research Description - My research aims to elucidate the processes of and links between soil formation, surface properties, and landform evolution across a Mojave Desert landscape. Specifically, my research centers around four questions.
- How do the southern Fry Mountains contribute to local and regional eolian processes?
- What soils are found in these upland areas and what major processes contribute to their formation?
- What is the role of land-surface characteristics in trapping dust and redistributing water on the landscape?
- Can our knowledge of the processes of carbonate accumulation be applied to accurately predict soil inorganic carbon (SIC) storage across the landscape?
- Understanding these processes and links will help predict the response of arid ecosystems to environmental problems such as rising greenhouse gases and land-use change.
