I am interested in the impacts of long-term, large-scale changes of the environment on species. Using GIS, remote sensing and modelling techniques I aim to gain an insight into spatio-temporal changes of species distributions and abundance as well as of anthropogenic changes of the environment.

Risk mapping of ticks under climate and deer population change
Over the past decades tick-borne diseases have increased dramatically in the UK. The causes of this increase are currently unknown. Climate change and increased deer abundance have been suggested as possible drivers of this increase. Using statistical and biological modelling we aim to determine which of these two factors is driving recent increases in tick abundance and tick-borne diseases. This work is done collaboratively with Sarah Randolph from the Oxford Tick Research Group.

Farming and biodiversity
Agriculture has and will expand rapidly to feed the growing human population. Mapping historic and future expansion of global agriculture I investigate the impacts of agriculture on threatened bird species. Further we are developing a model of tradeoffs between wildlife-friendly farming and land sparing farming. This work is in collaboration with Andrew Balmford and Rhys Green from the Conservation Biology Group, Cambridge.
